Training, classes, lessons — same session, different words
Some parents call what we do “basketball training,” some call it “basketball classes,” some go looking for “basketball lessons.” They’re describing the same weekly HoopStars session — we don’t run three different products.
Every session mixes coached skill work — shot form, dribbling, footwork, passing — with a short game to apply it. That’s the entire model.
What one session actually looks like
Warm-up, then rotating skill blocks: 10 minutes handle, 10 minutes shooting form, 10 minutes finishing at the rim. Then a small-sided game for the last third. Groups are capped small enough that every kid runs every drill — if kids are waiting in line, the group is too big.
Skills training inside the same session
The majority of every session is skills training. Older age groups get proportionally more skills-only time because they can hold focus longer. Younger kids get the same mechanics wrapped inside faster-paced games so attention stays up. Same fundamentals, different pacing.
Beginners are the norm, not the exception
A large share of every season is kids taking their first basketball lessons. Coaches sort by skill within each age band so first-timers aren’t being pushed to run plays and returning players aren’t slowed down. Both groups move at the right pace for them.
When training moves into games
Once the mechanics stick, kids can layer game day on top — a structured game format with referees. Most families do training in their first season and add game day in the second. During school breaks, a week of basketball camp adds volume without changing the shape of what the kid is learning.
Age-specific options: toddler basketball (ages 2–3), preschool basketball (ages 4–5), and girls basketball for the all-girls setting. For every program at every Mississauga venue, see our Mississauga home page.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in HoopStars basketball training in Mississauga?
Weekly small-group sessions that mix skill blocks — shooting, dribbling, passing, footwork — with a short scrimmage or 3v3 at the end. It functions equally well as a basketball class, a lesson, or focused skills work depending on the age band.
Do you offer basketball skills training too, or is that separate?
The training program IS skills training — shot mechanics, ball handling, and footwork are the majority of every session. Older age groups get proportionally more skills-only time. There is no separate "skills" product to book.
What ages do you train?
Basketball training runs for ages 2 through 14, grouped by age band and further sorted by skill within each band. Toddler basketball is a separate track built for our very youngest players.
Are these basketball classes suitable for beginners?
Yes. Coaches sort by skill inside each age group, so first-timers train with other first-timers. No prior basketball classes or lessons required to start.
How long is a season and how often do sessions run?
Standard seasons run 8 to 12 weeks depending on the venue and time of year. Sessions are once a week, roughly 60 minutes for younger groups and up to 90 for older. Registration is per-season — no long-term commitment.
Do you run basketball training year-round in Mississauga?
Yes. Spring, summer, fall, and winter seasons, plus school-break camp weeks in between. Use the location filter above to see what is currently open.
