What HoopStars families say

What game day looks like on the ground

Teams get set on week one and stay together through the season. Two teams play, two teams sub. A ref calls fouls. There is a scoreboard, and yes, kids look at it. Nobody pretends they don’t care about winning.

The reason this matters: skills built in basketball training only get proven when the pressure of a real game is on. Game day is the smallest, cleanest version of that pressure we can put a kid in.

Two venues, same format

Agnes Taylor and Aloma Crescent both host game day on their own weekly slots. Same referees, same structure — families pick the venue that fits their schedule.

Should we do training first?

If your child has never played a real game, yes — one season of Brampton training is usually enough. If they already dribble and pass, starting straight in game day is fine.

Between seasons

Brampton game day doesn’t run 52 weeks. Between seasons, kids who want to stay in a game rhythm join basketball camp in Mississauga — camp weeks include real 3v3 and 5v5 games alongside the skill blocks.

All-girls option (across the GTA): girls basketball. Younger kids: toddler or preschool basketball. For every program at every Brampton venue, see our Brampton home page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is basketball game day at HoopStars in Brampton?

A structured weekly game format for kids ages 5 to 14 at Agnes Taylor and Aloma Crescent Public Schools. Teams are set at the start of the season, referees run each match, and every player gets real minutes.

Is Brampton game day competitive?

Competitive in the sense that scores are kept and referees call fouls. Not a rep league — no standings, no cuts, no travel. Kids apply their skills under real game pressure and go home.

Does my child need to be advanced to join?

No. Kids are grouped by age band and skill at both Brampton venues, so first-timers play against other first-timers. If your child has done a season of training, they are ready.

How does game day work in Brampton specifically?

Sessions run at Agnes Taylor or Aloma Crescent on a fixed weekly slot for the season. Same court, same referees, same team roster — kids build a rhythm across the season rather than playing strangers each week.

Can we do both training and game day in Brampton?

Yes. Training builds the mechanics; game day exposes what the child does with them under pressure. Coaches on both sides talk so feedback lines up. Most families run both.

Are camps offered at the Brampton venues?

Not currently — camp weeks run at our Mississauga venues. Brampton hosts weekly training and game day only.
