Training, classes, lessons — same session, different words
Some parents call what we do “basketball training,” some call it “basketball classes,” some go looking for “basketball lessons.” The Burnhamthorpe program covers all three — one weekly HoopStars session, not three different products.
Every session mixes coached skill work — shot form, dribbling, footwork, passing — with a short game to apply it. That’s the entire model.
What a Burnhamthorpe session actually looks like
Warm-up, then rotating skill blocks: 10 minutes handle, 10 minutes shooting form, 10 minutes finishing at the rim. Then a small-sided game for the last third. Group size is capped so every kid runs every drill — if kids are waiting in line, the group is too big.
Skills training inside the same session
The majority of every Etobicoke session is skills work. Older age groups get proportionally more skills-only time; younger kids get the same mechanics wrapped inside faster-paced games so attention stays up.
Beginners are the norm, not the exception
A large share of every season in Etobicoke is kids taking their first basketball lessons. Coaches sort by skill within each age band so first-timers aren’t being pushed to run plays and returning players aren’t slowed down.
When training moves into games
Once the mechanics stick, kids can layer game day on top — the structured Etobicoke game format with referees. Most families do training in their first season and add game day in the second. Camp weeks aren’t offered at Burnhamthorpe, but a week at basketball camp in Mississauga adds volume for families willing to drive.
For every HoopStars program at every Etobicoke venue, see our Etobicoke home page. All-girls option (across the GTA): girls basketball.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where does HoopStars basketball training run in Etobicoke?
Weekly training runs at Burnhamthorpe Collegiate Institute (500 The East Mall, Etobicoke). The gym is heated and indoor — sessions run through every season, not just summer.
What does a HoopStars basketball class in Etobicoke look like?
Small-group weekly sessions that mix skill blocks — shooting, dribbling, passing, footwork — with a short scrimmage. It functions equally well as a basketball class, a lesson, or focused skills training depending on the age band.
Do you offer basketball skills training in Etobicoke?
The Etobicoke training program IS skills training — the majority of every session is shot mechanics, ball handling, and footwork reps. There is no separate "skills" product to book in addition to the standard training slot.
What ages can join basketball lessons in Etobicoke?
Basketball training in Etobicoke runs for ages 2 through 14, sorted by age band and skill inside the band so first-timers train with first-timers.
How long is a season?
Standard seasons run 8 to 12 weeks. Sessions are once a week, roughly 60 minutes for younger groups and up to 90 for older. Registration is per season with no long-term commitment.
Are camps offered at the Etobicoke venue?
Not currently — camp weeks run at our Mississauga venues. If you want a full-week format alongside Etobicoke training, look at basketball camp in Mississauga.
